It’s always nice to watch some men’s hockey on a lazy sunday afternoon and have your camera with you (and find your picture in the local newspaper the next day). Last Sunday: Nieuwegein – Baarn H1. See the photo’s here.
…only the catwalk was pretty small (therefore no pictures of models walking elegantly with one foot in front of the other).
…and the catwalk was partly bordered by walls (resulting in undesirable shadows).
…and the heating pipelines were on these walls, staring annoyingly over the models’ shoulders right into my lens.
…and there were three types of light at the same time: day light, some sort of spot and my flash (thus: in one picture the model’s skin colour is both blue-ish and reddish).
…and there was no room to keep some distance from the catwalk, so I needed to shoot from a wide-angle (meaning: distorted legs and other limps)
So, my perfectionistic self wasn’t pleased. But my other self—the “hey-guys-I-took-some-shots-of-you-that-you-might-like-and-want-to-use-as-your-new-profile-picture-self”—was content. Because it was fun and the atmosphere was great.
The pictures of the friendly match Baarn H1 – Soest H1, last thursday, have been added to my Flickr account. Photography by night turns out to be not my favourite kind. The pictures are very noisy, since I shot them at ISO 6400. Anyone any tips? Flash and slower shutter speeds are definitely a ‘no’, and a 70-200mm 2.8 I can’t afford. 😉
